Here is the latest notice sent to faculty and staff in the College of Journalism regarding the changes to the station.

Dear Colleagues,

As I announced June 1 in my presentation about the broadcast station restructuring process, the new organizational structure includes the position of executive director of the newly formed Division of Multimedia Properties. We are in the process of beginning a national search to fill that position.

This search will proceed for several weeks, however, and there is an urgent, strong and compelling need for interim implementation leadership today. Several staff members have expressed this to me. We are in an extremely busy transition period as we carry on with critical functions and implement restructuring objectives.

In order to meet this immediate need, and in response to feedback and inquiries from multimedia staff and faculty, I am pleased to announce that Paul Gordon has agreed to serve as interim executive director of the Division of Multimedia Properties. I feel fortunate we are able to achieve interim leadership with a person with such rich and valuable media management experience as Paul. Of course, Paul has spent the last year serving as a consultant to both the commercial stations and the College, and recently added the responsibility of consulting on the non-commercial stations and the blending of properties to assist in the development of the Division of Multimedia Properties. Paul has been a friend to the College and the stations for over 20 years and has been a valuable resource to everyone during these difficult economic and transition months. Paul will provide strong leadership as many of our multimedia personnel are adjusting to new and expanded roles in the new division model.

Paul has agreed to the interim position until a successful search is completed but for a period no longer than one year. Many of you know that Paul also is an applicant for the permanent executive director role.

I continue to be committed to a significant, diligent and transparent search process. However, the time required to conduct the search and the immediate and compelling need to fill the leadership role are incongruent. This interim appointment allows us to conduct the search and be confident that when we arrive at a final decision, we will have confidence in the selection.

While there have been many painful decisions in the formation of the DMP, I am more committed to the process than ever before. I also am certain that the future is bright for UF and the College of Journalism and Communications.

Thanks,
John
